The first session is spent establishing if you wish to work with me. I believe that the most important aspect of counselling is the relationship as this can affect the therapeutic work as it is vital you can be open and honest with me. Together we will explore what has brought you to therapy and discover what your outcomes may be. If you are happy to continue our journey, then I will take some details from you and discuss any agreements.
Sessions will last for 50 minutes. As research has shown that this is the optimum therapeutic time required for the client to get the most out of a session and for the counsellor to be able to give their best.
Initially, I would suggest meeting weekly and then once you start feeling more confident in your own abilities this could change to fortnightly or once monthly. I will review sessions and invite you to tell me what you feel comfortable with.
The length of time depends on you. Some people may only request short term work (average 6 weeks). Whereas, for some individuals gaining a self-awareness can highlight other behaviours or problems that present themselves, so the initial reason they started counselling may change. We will review sessions every 6 weeks to check we are going in the right direction and that you are happy with the work.
I require 24 hours’ notice to cancel or change an appointment. Any notice less than 24 hours will result of the full cost of a session.
